Description

Primary Purpose

 

Special education inclusion teachers will collaborate with general education teachers to assist with lesson plans, scaffold instruction, assist with the development of instructional materials, assist with classroom assessments and assure that the needs of all students are being met.  Inclusion teachers will actively participate in the curriculum alignment and development process in order to assist with the differentiation of instruction.  Inclusion teachers will complete service logs and actively participate in the IEP creation process.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Education/Certification:

 

    • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
    • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned or approved alternative certification
    • Preferred ESL Certification

 

  • Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

    • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction 
    • Knowledge of subjects assigned
    • Ability to research and develop teaching units
    • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

  • Experience

 

    • Student teaching or approved internship

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Instructional Strategies/Curriculum Expectations

 

    • Actively participate in the district curriculum development process.
    • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by federal regulations, the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.  
    • Incorporate research-based instructional strategies in the teaching of the curriculum.
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the diverse needs of students assigned.  
    • Ensure equal access to curriculum and equitable delivery to each student.
    • Work cooperatively with other teachers to modify curricula as needed for students.
    • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
    • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s), and student teachers.
    • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. 

 

  • Student Growth and Development

 

    • Create individualized goals and/or objectives for students as part of the IEP process.
    • Complete and distribute IEP progress reports concurrent with grading periods.
    • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.  
    • Analyze and interpret student assessment data to diagnose each student's learning in order to differentiate instruction to meet each student's instructional needs.
    • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and approved by the campus principal.
    • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

 

  • Classroom/Laboratory Management and Organization

 

    • Assist the general education teacher to assure that the classroom environment is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    • Assist with the management of student behavior in accordance with District Discipline Management Plan, Code of Conduct, campus student handbook, and behavioral intervention plans.
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

  • Communication

 

    • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers and support staff.  Encourage parents to support student learning.
    • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
    • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

  • Professional Growth and Development

 

    • Seek and actively participate in appropriate, ongoing professional development.

 

  • Other

 

    • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

    • Supervise teacher aide(s), volunteer(s), and student teacher(s) as assigned.
