Primary Purpose:

 

Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route.  Operate school bus that transports students and other personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.

 

Qualifications:

 

      Minimum Education/Certification:

      Valid Texas commercial drivers license (Class B), no record of DWI,DUI convictions for the past 7 years.

      Must pass annual DOT required physical exam.

      Must pass all drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT standards.

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      Must be 21 years of age.

Ability to read, write, speak and follow written and verbal instructions in English.

      Acceptable driving record according to Department of Public Safety standards.

 

      Experience:

      Experience with children preferred.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  2. Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing bus.
  3. Maintain appropriate student management and report student incidents to appropriate administrators.
  4. Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules; ability to operate bus safely for extended periods of time.
  5. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections before and after each operation and submit work orders for needed repairs.
  6. Communicate with school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus.
  7. Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
  8. Properly operate communication equipment.
  9. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries, and complete required reports.
  10. Drive bus on extra curricular activities as needed.
  11. Operate standard and automatic transmission motor vehicle (required).
  12. Must attend all district and departmental training as required.

      Mental Demands:

      Maintain emotional control; communicate effectively; maintain effective control over groups of students.

 

      Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:

      Lifts 10-50 pounds frequently, 50-100 pounds occasionally, more than 100 pounds infrequently with assistance.  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions.  Occasional walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying.  Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.  May be exposed to body fluids and other contagions.
